Hayes and Partners gained planning consent to convert the large barn into three dwellings and retain the small barn for the fourth.

The owner of Crumble Hey Barn needed more space to accommodate a growing family. Although permitted development rights were removed when change of use was approved, the new dwelling retained an allowance for extensions under planning policy.

Hayes and Partners obtained consent for the conversion and extension of the attached garage and the addition of a garden room beyond the kitchen. This added two bedrooms and an extra living room to the dwelling.

Care was taken to ensure that the proposals appeared subservient to the host dwelling and the design was in character with the agricultural group of buildings.

The dwellings are heated by a communal bio-mass unit to meet the requirements of Eco-Homes Excellent standard (equivalent CSH Code 4).
