Hayes and Partners secured approval for a contemporary dwelling in place of an existing agricultural machinery store, one of four new dwellings at Kermincham Hall Barns.
The first step involved securing a prior approval for conversion of the existing building to a dwelling. Subsequently, Hayes and Partners then gained planning consent for a replacement dwelling without having instigated the conversion scheme. The replacement dwelling is 207m² and is efficiently laid out in an agriculturally proportioned building. Importantly, the dwelling was designed to be uncontroversial in its appearance, giving the appearance of a contemporary barn conversion.
Hayes and Partners were then successful with a minor material amendment to change the opening and external materials, ultimately creating a less traditional design with material variation that better reflects the character of pre-existing agricultural buildings.
